Why a bilingual site ?
In order to reach a large community of interest, this blog must be written (at least partially) in English. On the other hand, using only English drastically limits the cultural scope of the project. Some very interesting stuff can be found in works that have not yet (or will never) been translated into English. As the initiators of this site are French, they naturally proposed an English/French blog. That does not mean that every post will be integrally written in both languages but that we will do our best to facilitate the access to non-English or non-French readers by providing a bilingual interface and translating the summary of most of the posts. The price to pay is to render the site a little heavy.
We would certainly consider adding a third language (e.g. Spanish), if some people are interested in contributing to the project. Any help for this translation task would be very much appreciated.
Keep in mind that the posts can be written by non-English native speakers. So if you notice some unforgivable language mistake, please be kind enough to let us know in a comment to the post. We will correct it asap.
Pourquoi un site bilingue ?
Afin d’intéresser le plus grand nombre de personnes, ce blog doit évidemment être rédigé en anglais. Cependant, utiliser uniquement l’anglais limite considérablement la portée culturelle du projet. Des exemples très intéressants peuvent être trouvés dans des ouvrages qui n’ont pas encore été ou ne seront jamais traduits en ‘anglais. Comme les initiateurs de ce site sont français, ils ont logiquement construit un blog anglais/français. Cela ne signifie pas que chaque billet sera intégralement rédigé dans les deux langues, mais que nous ferons de notre mieux pour faciliter l’accès au contenu à des non-anglophones ou des non-francophones, en fournissant à la fois une interface bilingue et la traduction du résumé de la plupart des postes. Le prix à payer est de rendre le site un peu lourd.
Nous sommes prêts à envisager d’ajouter une troisième langue, l’espagnol par exemple, si certaines personnes sont intéressées à contribuer au projet. Nous remercions par avance toute aide que nous pouvons obtenir quant à cette tâche de traduction.
Gardez à l’esprit que certains messages peuvent être rédigés par des non-francophones. Donc, si vous constatez une erreur linguistique impardonnable, merci de nous en informer dans un commentaire. Nous la corrigerons le plus rapidement possible.
