In 1974, Garry Marshall created a cult sitcom: Happy Days about a family in 1950s/1960s Milwaukee. One of the characters, originally planned to be secondary, became the lead role: Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli alias Fonzie, The Fonz, Fonzta! or just Fonz, played by Henry Winkler. He became popular that he had his own statue in 2008, 24 years after the end of the sitcom…

En 1974, Garry Marshall créa une série qui allait devenir culte : Happy Days (Les jours heureux) racontant le quotidien d’une famille dans le Milwaukee des années 50-60. L’un des personnages originellement prévu pour être secondaire, en devint rapidement la vedette : il s’agit de Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli dit Fonzie, le Fonz, Fonzta!, ou plus simplement Fonz, interprété par Henry Winkler. Personnage tellement populaire qu’il eut même droit  à sa propre statue en 2008, 24 ans après la fin de la série…

Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli

This statue (the Bronze Fonz) is a public artwork by the American artist Gerald P. Sawyer. It is located on the Milwaukee Riverwalk, just south of Wells Street in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin U.S.A. Fonzie stands in his typical costume: a « Perfecto » leather jacket, a white T-Shirt, jeans and boots. He is giving a two-handed thumbs up, which is one of its recurring gestures in the sitcom.

Cette statue (appelée le Bronze Fonz), est une œuvre de l’artiste américain Gerald P. Sawyer. Elle est installée sur la Milwaukee Riwerwalk, au sud de Wells Street dans le centre-ville de Milwaulkee dans le Wisconsin aux USA. Fonzie y est représenté vêtu d’un t-Shirt blanc, de son blouson de cuir (de type perfecto), un jean et ses bottes. Il a les poings tendus et les pousses levés, ce qui correspond à un de ses gestes récurrents dans la série.
