Colonel Stok's map of Berlin

Funeral in Berlin is a 1966 British spy film directed by Guy Hamilton. British secret agent Harry Palmer (Michael Caine) is sent to Berlin to arrange the defection of Colonel Stok (Oskar Homolka), an important Soviet officer who is in charge of the security of a part of the Berlin Wall. Some maps appearsduring the movie.

Mes funérailles à Berlin est un film d’espionnage réalisé en 1966 par Guy Hamilton. Harry Palmer (Michael Caine), agent britannique, est chargé par sa héiérarchie de faire sortir clandestinement de RDA le colonel Stok de RDA. Ce dernier, agent soviétiques responsable de la sécurité du Mur de Berlin, semble en effet vouloir passer à l’Ouest. Au fil du film, plusieurs cartes apparaissent.

Colonel Stok's map of Germany

Two maps hang over the walls of  Colonel Stok’s office (20th minutes). The first shows the German territory (FRG and GDR). The second one focuses on Berlin. A red line represents the Berlin Wall. Pins are planted on the map, mainly along the wall.

Another map is in the Inspector Reinhardt’s office, Palmer’s interlocutor of the West German police. This is also a map of Berlin(32th and 54th).

The last map is in the British Secret Service building, in London. It is not easy to recognize with certitude the geographical area that is shown on this map … (5th and 47th minutes) with many pins too. Note that the windows of the office of Palmer’s immediat superior overlook Trafalgar Square. This is a good indication about this office’s location.

On trouve 2 cartes dans le bureau du Colonel Stok (20ième minutes). La première représente l’ensemble de l’Allemagne (RFA+RDA). La seconde se focalise sur Berlin. Le mur y étant figuré par un trait rouge le long. Des punaises sont plantées sur la carte, essentiellement le long du mur.

Une autre  carte  se trouve dans le bureau de l’inspecteur Reinhardt, contact de Palmer dans la police ouest allemande. Il s’agit là encore d’une carte de Berlin (32ième et 54ième).

La dernière carte se trouve à Londres, dans les locaux des services secrets dont Palmer dépend. Il est bien difficile de reconnaître la zone géographiques représentée sur cette carte… (5ième et 47ième minutes). Elle porte elle aussi de nombreuses punaises. Notons que les fenêtres du  bureau du supérieur de Palmer donnent sur Trafalgar Square, ce qui est une indication très précise de la localisation de ce bureau.
